Review…

I was sent the November box from Space Scouts to review.

The price for a 1-month subscription is $11.95, plus $3.00 for shipping.  Discounts are given for multi-month purchases.

Packaging & Presentation of the Space Scouts Subscription Box

I definitely knew when the Space Scouts box arrived!  The actual shipping box is decorated with a picture of a rocket and a Space Scouts logo sticker.

When my son, Charlie and I opened the box, we found a white bubble mailer filled with goodies.  Underneath that, there was something wrapped in foam and thick bubbles to reduce movement during shipping.

We opened everything up and laid it out.  There was SO much stuff!

There were sticker scrambles, constellation cards, a cute Space Scouts Lunch Box, and so much more!

My Personal Experience with the Space Scouts Subscription Box

It was kind of funny, my 6-year old son was so excited to get his own subscription box.  I get quite a few myself, and he was happy to be able to have one that didn't have a bunch of makeup in it.

When he saw all of the contents of the Space Scouts box, he wanted to do everything at the same time.  He automatically reached for the Bionic Arm, and he had a lot of fun with that.

The next thing he did was the Sticker Scramble.  He loved it, and this activity took about 30 minutes.

Next, he did the dot-to-dot puzzle using the included Wikki Stix.  He thought these things were so awesome.  After the dot-to-dot, he made other designs.

Lastly, we worked on some of the activity sheets together.  He liked them, and he said he learned a lot!

Pros of the Space Scouts Subscription Box
  • Educational-- not only is it a fun surprise every month, but Space Scouts has just the right amount of education built into their program.
  • This is a super gift.  I say that because if you purchase a subscription for that special kid in your life, it keeps on giving all year long. (Or until you cancel it).
  • So many different activities to suit all types of children's interests.
  • In my case, this is a bonding tool.  My husband loves space, and my son is interested in it with him.  So now he can learn and tell his dad all about it.
Cons of the Space Scouts Subscription Box
  • Price.  For the initial 'adventure pack', your child is sent a bunch of awesome one-time-only stuff and I can see the price of $11.95 being perfect for that.  However, after your first box, you get additions to your collections:  another constellation card, an activity sheet, another sticker scramble, etc.  After the initial box, I wish the price would drop a few dollars, I'd say around $9.95 would be good for the following boxes.
Summary

My son really enjoyed his Space Scouts box.  He is looking forward to next month's box, too!  He was occupied for quite some time, and I really liked that it was proactive occupation.  It's not like he was wasting away watching tv, but he was doing activities that benefited him (even if he was unaware of it).  Although the price is a little high for me, I would definitely consider purchasing this just because my 6-year-old loved it that much.
