My Review of No-Work Spanish
What is it exactly?
From the website . . .
"...Remember when you learned your first language? You didn't need language tapes. You didn't get sent to a class. People talked to you and you listened and little by little, you got the gist of what people were saying.
What if you could learn a second language the same way?
No homework. No language drills. Just listen and learn.
No-Work Spanish is a brand-new concept. The story is read with each sentence said first in English, then in Spanish. You will find your mind connects the English and Spanish, just like you can pause a favorite song and sing the next line, without thinking about it and certainly without making any effort to memorize the words in the song. After a chapter has been read in English and Spanish, it is repeated in Spanish, to reinforce the Spanish version in the listener’s mind.
No-Work Spanish stories are available on CD’s or as audio downloads. They vary in length from 50 minutes to about an hour and 45 minutes. Each story has a different reader, so you will become familiar with variations in pronunciation..."

Packaging & Presentation
I was sent both Yaks March on Washington (Based on a True Story) and Poster Girl audiobooks presented by No-Work Spanish for this review!
Ease of Use
Yaks March on Washington was presented as a one-cd story.
Poster Girl is a perfect example of one of the longer stories, and is presented as a two-disc set.
The story Yaks March on Washington really appealed to me, so I popped it in my CD player in my car!
This is how the discs are set up: Each chapter is a separate track. The narrator reads each sentence in English, and then reads the same sentence in Spanish. After the chapter is finished, the next track plays the exact same chapter in nothing but Spanish.
The language does run fast, but hearing the English first and being able to associate the new vocabulary with something more home-based makes a significant impact on how the language is interpreted.
The stories are pretty neat; I really like the repetitive language, allowing me to catch on pretty quickly. I’ve had Spanish classes in previous years of school, but with No-Work Spanish I would be able to catch on without having any prior experience.
Pros
- Allows you the time to learn a new language by hearing it in the car
- Gives you a new approach to learning a language
- Allows you to slowly formulate words into phrases
- Helps empower you to comprehend the difficulty of a spoken language.
