..::Product Review::.. Make Up by One Direction

My Review of the Make Up by One Direction "Take Me Home" Collection

What is it exactly?

     From the website. . .
"A range of makeup and cosmetic products celebrating youth, style, and the uninhibited lifestyle of a new generation. Celebrating life with bold shades, unique formulae and infused with limited edition collectible packaging, Makeup from One Direction is fun, bold, often irreverent, with a touch of cheeky mischievousness. Offered at prices that every girl and woman can afford."

Review…
I was sent a pre-launch preview box from Markwins International promoting their new Make Up by One Direction.  Out of the three collections available, I received the "Take Me Home" collection.  This box includes the following:  a brown eye crayon, (5) shades of eyeshadow, liquilights glow gloss, lipstick, mascara, body stencils, and nail varnish.

This collection is available from $28.50 from your major department stores (Macy's, Dillard's, Lord & Taylor) and was just released on August 25th, 2014.

Packaging & Presentation

This make up collection arrived in a collectible, hinged metal tin that was wrapped in a plastic slip cover.  The cover has a picture of the band, and describes the contents on the back.

After opening the tin, it was pretty fancy inside!  On the left provides you with a few different ways to apply the makeup according to your eye color.  The right side houses all of the make up!  The make up is nested in its own space, and is spaced in an attractive manner.

My Personal Experience with the Make Up by One Direction "Take Me Home" Collection

First, I would like to say that I have a deep love for make up.  I like to go with the 'natural' look, so I was pretty happy that out of the 3 collections, I was randomly sent the one with the colors that I usually wear!  I have a lot of make up as is, so reviewing this collection is right up my alley!  Before applying any of the make up, I started with a base powder foundation, and covered with a light mineral veil.  Then I began applying the Make Up by One Direction.

Before applying any of the actual make up, I used the nail varnish in "Live While We're Young".  I used a mid-blue base, and used the varnish over it.  I LOVE IT!

The  first piece I tried was the eye crayon in "I Wish".  This eye crayon was pretty chunky, so it was a little hard to use as a defining liner.  It did glide on super easily, so I must give it credit for that!  The color is perfect, too.

Next, I used the eyeshadow.  This is a 4+1 Eye Shadow Palette, and I used the guide printed on the left side of the tin for application.  On my inner eye, I used "Changed My Mind", on the bottom lash line, I used "Little Things", and on my outer eye, I used "C'mon C'mon".  This eye shadow was awesome.  It was easy to use, and super bold.  The brush was a little small, but you can always use another brush from your staple set.

To finish up the eyes, I used the mascara.  The name of this mascara is "Little Black Dress".  Out of all the make up in the world, mascara is my favorite, so I am really, really picky about it.  The mascara in this collection was pretty good.  It was very dark, and it did not clump, which I loved.  However, it was a little dry in the tube, with this being said, I'm not sure how long it would last.  Maybe it'll last awhile.  Overall, I'd say that I liked it.

Next, to tackle the lips.  I used the lipstick in "Last First Kiss" and the liquilights glow gloss in "Kiss You" in conjunction.  I put the lipstick on my top lip, and the gloss on the bottom.  I don't really use lipstick, especially darker shades, so I was kind of skeptical of this one.  After applying it, it was very light, barely even visible.  To my surprise, I actually liked it.  The gloss was also almost colorless, so it amplified the natural color of my lips.

Also included in this collection is a 5-piece decorator stencil set.  I did not use these, but you use them to decorate yourself, your stuff, or your friends with One Direction doodles.

Alas, we have the final product!  I love it!

All finished!

Pros of the Make Up by One Direction "Take Me Home" Collection
  • All the make up comes in one tin.  No small pieces to buy separately.
  • Each collection is crafted for any eye color.  The pictures guide you as you apply per your eye color.
  • The make up quality is higher than I expected.  I was pretty impressed with the quality of each individual piece in the set.
  • This is made by One Direction, so if you or someone you know loves this band, this will make an excellent gift!

Cons of the Make Up by One Direction "Take Me Home" Collection
  • Availability.  This make up collection is only available in department stores.  If you don't frequently shop these stores, it'll be a little hard to find.
  • The 5-piece stencil set does not really seem to fit in the collection.  I would have loved a blush or a bronzer in its place.

Summary

This long awaited make up collection was actually pretty decent!  I honestly did not know what to expect, because I am a bit of a make up snob.  After putting the collection to the test, I was pretty impressed with the outcome.  I've received compliments on both my nails and my make up.  If you like One Direction, if you like make up, or if you like BOTH, you should check this out.  It's a great starter kit, and it'll make a great gift!
