Packaging & Presentation of the Original Ginsu 9" Slicer

I am happy to report that this knife arrived to my house almost in perfect condition.  A little piece of the top plastic package was broken off, but it doesn't affect the usability of the product itself.

The package itself is one of those clam-shell type deals.  I'm not a fan of this kind of packaging, but please keep in mind that this is a very sharp knife.  I think under these circumstances, I don't mind so much.  The package was primarily clear, but there is a cardboard insert that provides all the necessary usage information.  The package is very long, measuring 19.0" x 3.75" x 0.75" at its widest points.

The front of the package labels the product and brand.  It also has an item number, and says that it has a 'bakelite handle'.  The back of the package a little description of the knife in three different languages-- English, French, and Spanish.

The handle of the knife sticks out through the bottom.  This can be a good and a bad thing.  As far as being good, it really reduces the amount of packaging to use which saves money.  The bad?  The handle can easily get scratched up before it even gets used.

I suggest using a nice, sharp pair of scissors to cut through the plastic in order to pull it open and get the knife out.  It's a hard plastic, so take your time.

My Personal Experience with the Original Ginsu 9" Slicer

When I opened this package up, my mom was so excited to see the Ginsu.  I thought she was joking with me, because I've never heard of it before.  Well, the joke was on me, because apparently I was the only one who's never heard of it.  Everybody kept referring to the Ginsu commercial where they would cut through the aluminum can, and then slice a tomato without effort afterward.  It cuts through anything, and slices effortlessly-- much like the brisket slicer knife.  I'm going to link that video below, so you'll know what I'm talking about.  With that being said, I must say that I was incredibly excited to test this out and use it around the kitchen.

First, a little bit about the knife.  The blade itself is 9.0", so you get a nice serrated cutting edge.  The knife has quite a bit of weight to it, and it fits nicely in your hand.  The brand 'Ginsu' is printed on the blades.

The handle is a full tang, triple riveted, and easy-to-hold. It also has a nice forked tip to make serving easier.

I really, really, really wanted to slice a potato with this.  I had an extra potato, and I noticed the knife was really sharp, so I figured it would be pretty fun.  Let me tell you-- it was effortless.

Pros of the Original Ginsu 9" Slicer
  • Perfect weight for me!  It's easy to balance and hold.
  • The handle is triple-riveted.  It's built to last, and is super sturdy.
  • The blade never needs sharpening.
  • The blade is 9.0" long. Perfect for anything you need to use it for.
  • Has a forked end-- makes it easy to serve your freshly carved foods.
Cons of the Original Ginsu 9" Slicer
  • I haven't found any cons of this knife.
          Summary

I'm really happy how this review turned out.  The knife is definitely one of my favorite.  I can't wait to use it more!  It's made really well, and does its job perfectly.  The weight, colors, and quality are on point.  I love all of the little features, too-- the double edge blade, the forked tip, the 9.0" blade, and the triple riveted handle.  I'm sure this'll last so long that I'll have to pass it down to my great-grandkids!
