My Review of the Cool Gel n Cap Warm/Cold Compress

What is it exactly?

     From the website. . .
"Naturally soothe your kids age 1+ bumps, bruises, fever symptoms, migraines, headaches, ear infection symptoms, and more in a fun, easy, and effective way with the Cool Gel N Cap.  Why buy just ice packs, cold packs, or warm packs when you can have a Cool Gel N Cap?  The gel packs that come with your Cool Gel N Cap can be used ANYWHERE it hurts, inside or out of the cap, anywhere on the body.  AND… the non-toxic, latex free gel packs can be used cold AND warm, unlike conventional ice packs or cold packs.  This gives you the benefit of both a cold compress & warm compress for anywhere it hurts AND a cozy cap!  The Cool Gel N Cap is more comfortable on the head for your child than a traditional ice pack, cold pack, or especially a bag of frozen vegetables as the fabric is not only designed to be cozy, but also remove the sting of ice packs on the skin while letting the cool and warm therapy still get through.  The first aid cap is also designed to eliminate condensation associated with cold packs and ice packs.  Reduces swelling and relieves pain from head to toe.  Works perfectly as a cold compress or warm compress.  Freezer & Microwave safe.  The gel packs are non toxic, water soluble, & latex free.  Also reusable!  Machine washable:  The cozy first aid cap can be washed over and over.  The cold compress of the Cool Gel N Cap is great for little ones suffering from Hemophilia, as its cooling gel packs slow the flow of blood to the affected area.  The Cool Gel N Cap is also a cozy solution for kids suffering from Dravet Syndrome as it is a comfortable way to keep cool during a fever."

Review…

I was sent the 'Tuplip" children's first aid cap with (2) kids ice packs from Cool Gel n Cap LLC to review.

This cap costs $16.99.  Shipping is free with Amazon Prime.

Packaging & Presentation of the Cool Gel n Cap Warm/Cold Compress

The Cool Gel n Cap arrived to my house in great condition.  The box (and product!) had no rips, tears, nor defects during shipment.  The box has a lot of information printed on it.  Since there are no included instructions, I'd probably keep the box to store your cap in when not in use, so you always have the information handy.  The box is primarily pink, with many different color accents.  The box measures 8.0" x 4.0" x 2.0" at its widest points.

The front of the box labels the product and brand.  It also states that this is for ages 1+.  It specifies that this is the 'Tulip' version of the cap, which is a cute little bunny rabbit.  It describes the box's contents, and has a NAPPA Honors award seal.  The back of the box has a little comic which shows a fictional situation in which the Cool Gel n Cap would be used.  The directions are provided in (3) steps.  The manufacturer's contact and social media information is listed towards the bottom.  For each purchase, you will also receive a free coloring book download.

The right side of the box labels the product in large print, and provides a little character personification of Tulip.  The left side of the box shows the step instructions once more.

The bottom of the box outlines the warnings associated with using the Cool Gel n Cap.  There is a reorder number.  This product is made in China.

When I unpacked the box, I found the actual cap, and (2) wrapped warm packs and cold packs for kids.

Each gel pack is approximately 4.0" in diameter.  They are reusable, non-toxic, and fabric.  The front says, "Cool Gel n Cap", and the back provides directions for use.

The cap has a lot of neat features!  There is a pair of little floppy ears, and the back features the Cool Gel n Cap logo.

The cap uses a stretch-and-Velcro closure.

The inside of the cap is pink, and there are two elastic slots that hold the Cold/Warm therapy gel packs.  The care tag is sewn into the inside.

My Personal Experience with the Cool Gel n Cap Warm/Cold Compress

I was very interested in this cap for a few reasons. First, you never know when you are going to need one of these.  They are very convenient to have in an emergency or first aid kit.  They are intended for ages 1-6, so you can keep them on hand for years. Hopefully, you'll never need to use this, but it's perfect for a little bump or bruise.

Kid's never like to keep a press on their heads, and this not only does the job-- but it's kind of fun for the kids, too.  They love the designs, and each character has a little story.  I have a 6-year old son, but I got the Tulip cap.  It doesn't really matter (especially in the situation where it is needed), but I feel this would be more for my daughter.  She's almost 1, so I'm going to keep this in her kit.

I made a review video for this, and it features my son.  If you've watched my videos before, you know that I like to video my first opening of the box.  In this video, I've never looked in the box, so it's a first-hand experience, just like if you received it today!  Watch this video to see how it worked!

Pros of the Cool Gel n Cap Warm/Cold Compress
  • Perfect for ages 1-6.
  • The caps are well-made, and will last for years.
  • The packs are non-toxic and are for warm and cold therapy.
  • Can be used on any part of the body-- there is no placement limit.
Cons of the Cool Gel n Cap Warm/Cold Compress
  • My son thought the Velcro part itched-- I'd love to see a row of snaps instead.  This way, it would be a bit more adjustable, and there wouldn't be any itching.
  • The Cool Gel n Cap comes in Toby the dog (more for boys) and Tulip the rabbit (more for girls).  I'd love to see a cap that is gender-neutral.
        Summary

This is definitely one of the best products I've reviewed thus far.  I really like it because it has such an important purpose, and can be used in many different ways.  It's great for kids, and makes first aid as much fun as it can be.  The price is affordable, and I'd love to buy these for a shower gift, etc.  They are universal, and definitely something I love keeping around.

Wish I'd had something like this 40 years ago. Very handy.
