..::Book Review::.. 'The Summer Diary' by Elyse Douglas

My Review of 'The Summer Diary' by Elyse Douglas

Overview

"The tragic death of her best friend and husband, lead Keri to a secret diary and a secret lover.

After her best friend and her husband are killed in a private airplane crash, Keri finds some of her friend’s personal effects, one of which is a diary. When Keri reads it, she discovers her friend had been secretly in love with another man, a soldier. Keri knew nothing about the relationship, even though she and her friend were as close as sisters.

Determined to find the secret lover, Keri sets off on a journey and discovers the key to her destiny."

My Personal Review

I have really been experimenting with different genres of books lately.  Usually I sit pretty firmly with the types that I read.  I really enjoy crime, mystery, suspense, sometimes horror, and (most recently) fantasy.  This book was a little bit different, so I was attracted to it.  At first, the description read like it would be a drama, mystery, and even a little suspenseful, and most definitely a love story.

I read a lot, and I know I say this quite often, but this book really expanded my normal range, and I really like it.  That is the good thing about blogging, I get to find new things and realize that I have been missing out for a long time!

The detail within this book is astounding, and I feel that each character was developed really well.  The dialogue was rich and easy to understand.

A true romance, usually I find these cheesy and easy to unravel.  Like Danielle Steele or Nicholas Sparks.  I can call the ending a mile away.  What I really enjoyed about this book, though, is that the additional twists in the plot really provided focus in different areas and not just the blooming romance.

The book ended to soon, and I would love to see a follow-up!

This book (paperback, because I'm partial to them!) costs $10.95 on Amazon, and shipping is free with Amazon Prime.

You can also grab the Kindle edition for $2.99 (or free for Kindle Unlimited!).
