..::Book Review::.. Mennonite on the Edge: An Unlikely Romance by Cynthia Yoder

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE REVIEW:  I was SO excited to read this book because this falls under one of my favorite topics to read about. I love reading about Mennonite people that grew up in the lifestyle and culture and have to make the ‘decision’ to stay or leave. That’s KIND of what this book was about, but there was a LOT more to it than that, too.

When I go to the bookstore, these are the kind of books that I like to seek out, so I really know what I’m looking for. Although a work of fiction, I can almost feel a particular realness to this, like the author has a subtle closeness to this story not let on. The story starts out with MaryJo already having made her decision. However, the book continues on with more of a ‘reflection’ as well as memories of her past that brought up a lot of tears, nostalgia, and made her question a lot about the decisions she has made. I will say that this book does move a bit slow, however when it comes to reading books on this topic, this is NOT uncommon.

Like I mentioned, I don’t think I’ve read anything filed under the ‘Christian fiction + Amish/Mennonite’ section that was jam-packed with action and super high profile secrets. The reason why I like this book is because it reminds me a lot about myself and that decisions do have consequences (both good and bad). This is high in emotion, centered on the main character’s feelings and memories, and written in the first-person perspective.
