..::Review + Giveaway::.. December Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box

My Review of the December Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box

What is it exactly?

     From the website. . .
"Each month a fully designed project kit arrives in a delightful box filled with stamps, ink, and paper—everything cut and ready to go so you can skip to the fun. Just think of it as creativity in a box."

Review…

I was sent the December box from Stampin' Up to review.

The price for a 1-month subscription is $19.95.  A neat quality about Paper Pumpkin is that you can increase the number of kits per month.  If you are having a crafting party, you can order one kit per attendee in the same master order.

Packaging & Presentation of the December Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box

I was pretty excited to come home and see a little red Paper Pumpkin box sitting in the mailbox!  The exterior box is red and baby blue, and it is small enough to fit into a standard mailbox.  The side of the box says, "You're moments away from your escape..." and the bottom of the box is labeled 'Stampin' Up'.

When I opened the box, I was introduced to a tissue paper wrapped box of goodies (sealed with a cute Paper Pumpkin sticker!) with a subscription introduction pamphlet.  The inside of the box also completed the statement from the exterior with, "...Run away with me."

The first layer of unwrapping revealed this month's (December) stamp set, and a Classic Stampin' Spot in Smokey Slate.  It also housed a bonus gift, the paper piercing pack.  It features (3) stencils.

The final layer housed the actual December kit, 'All Shook Up'.

The main title sheet provides a quick run-down of what you need to do, and it also opens up for a few more detailed instructions.  What I like about Paper Pumpkin is that they also provide YouTube video demonstrations on how to create the months' craft.  It is a helpful assistant, one in which I used! You can view this month's video above.

My Personal Experience with the December Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box

After unpacking everything, I was certainly ready to start creating!  First, before anything, I unpacked the actual kit and sat down and watched the YouTube video so I got an idea of what I was supposed to do (I'm a visual learner).

First things first-- I took a piece of the gray card stock and folded it in half using my wooden stick.  It was also at this point that I figured out what kind of card I wanted to create.  There were three to choose from:  Happy Birthday, Thank You, and Hello.  I decided to go with the 'hello' theme because I wanted to send it to my sister.  I selected the 'hello' stamp and used it as the inside greeting.

Next, I flipped the card over and used one of the paper portrait windows to measure where I need to stamp the front of my card with the theme.  I stamped it a total of (4) times.

The confetti was next.  I'll admit that I was the most excited about this part!  The confetti was made from stars and sequins.  What can be better than that?!  I popped out the stars using a toothpick, and I added some sequins to the mix (the directions say to use about 20 sequins per card).

...and then you put your pile right smack dab in the middle of your card.

You leave that alone for awhile as you begin working on the portrait frame.  To begin with, you lay the little plastic window on top of the frame, and then add the double-sided sticky foam strips around the frame to lock the plastic on.

Then you place the frame right over the confetti to trap it in!

The next part is to peel off the appropriate sticker for your card, in my case it was the 'hello' sticker.  Make sure you pop out all of the lettering holes.

Place your word right on top of your frame at a diagonal, and you are complete with the card!  Look at how awesome it looks!

Lastly, you can't forget about the envelope!  Take your wooden stick and make sure that the flap is folded tightly...

...and now it is complete, and cute as a button!

Pros of the December Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box
  • Everything is included.  There is no need to run to the craft store for anything that you may have forgot.
  • Each month brings a new craft, right to your door.
  • The crafts have detailed instructions including video instructions.
  • This kit has (3) different themed cards for different occasions.
  • I had a lot of fun with this kit, because you can do so much with it.  In fact, you can manipulate these crafts and do what works for you.

Cons of the December Paper Pumpkin Subscription Box
  • This craft can go wrong very easily.  So you need to make sure that you measure correctly and do a little preparation before you make any permanent marks.  There is very little slack room if you mess up.
Summary

I really enjoyed this month's box.  It was a very personal one, one in which you can make it more 'you'.  I feel that a handwritten note is important every now and then, and this craft makes it easy to not only pass on your note, but create it entirely from scratch.  You can follow the directions verbatim, or you can go your own creative route.  I really enjoyed this kit.
