..::Book Review::.. Silk by Chris Karlsen

Overview

"It is the time of Jack the Ripper, the widowed Queen Victoria sits on the throne of England. The whole of London is on edge wondering when or where Jack will kill next. The Palace, Parliament, and the press are demanding the police do more to find him.

In another part of London, rough-around-the-edges war hero, Metropolitan Detective Inspector Rudyard Bloodstone has his own serial killer to find. Inter departmental rivalries, politics, and little evidence to go on hamper the investigation at every turn. In a battle of wills, Bloodstone presses forward following his instincts in spite of the obstacles.

Adding to those problems, away from the strains of the investigation, he is engaged in the ups and downs of a new relationship with a lovely hat maker. "

My Personal Review

To be honest, I really wasn't sure what to expect here.  The year is 1888, and set in London.  I've never read a book like this, so it was definitely a stretch from my 'typical' genre.

BUT... this book is simply a-m-a-z-i-n-g!  I couldn't put it down.  I brought this book with me everywhere.

The character development is phenomenal.  I was stricken at the sociopath behavioral characteristics of one of the main characters (William), it was so intriguing.  I tried to put myself in the position of some of the women in his life, and what I would do differently.  The detective work back in that time was quite different (you know-- lack of CSI!).

This book is highly suspenseful, descriptive, and fast-paced.

By reading this book, it really has opened my eyes on a whole new genre.  This has introduced me to a whole new world.

Then end came too quick, and it was a real page-turner.  I definitely, definitely recommend this book.  I can't wait to read more (I hope more come in a series with Detective Ruddy!).

This book (paperback, because I'm partial to them!) costs $10.25 on Amazon, and $2.99 for the Kindle Edition.

HI Melissa,
Thank you for taking the time to read and review Silk. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. There will be another Det. Bloodstone book. I hope to start it late this year or early next.
